Is It Still You?

Sometimes you pull up your own website and think… who is this? Technically, there’s nothing wrong with it. It’s not broken, everything still functions fine. But as you scroll through it, you might find yourself making that face. The words are fine, the pages still load, but something’s… off. It just doesn’t quite sound like you or feel like you anymore. It doesn’t quite… fit.

Maybe what’s happening is that you’re seeing you – but a previous version of you, not who you’ve become since you built it.

Businesses can evolve quietly, sometimes without our really noticing. One new offer turns into another, a service expands, maybe you niche down. Before long, your website is still speaking a language you’ve already outgrown. As I looked at my old site, I realized that’s what had happened with mine.

Sometimes the giveaway is hesitation – that tiny pause before you send your link. You start saying things like, “Oh, I still need to update that,” or “Just ignore that page for now.” If you catch yourself explaining your website before someone even sees it, that’s a sign it’s ready for an update.

Another clue: it feels hard to add to. Maybe the structure’s clunky, or the tools have changed. You’ve got new projects, new products, new stories to tell – but the site doesn’t make it easy to share them. A healthy site should grow with you, not against you.

And yes, sometimes it really is the tech. This world keeps moving forward at lightning speed – faster themes, smarter SEO tools, better accessibility options. There are simpler, stronger ways now to do what used to take three plugins and a prayer.

Then there’s the look of it all. Do your colors still represent you? Does the logo still fit? Do you still like how it feels? Design isn’t just decoration – it’s communication. As your brand grows, your visuals need to grow with it.

Refreshing your site isn’t about ego or chasing perfection. It’s about alignment – making sure your online presence matches who you are, what you offer, and where you’re headed.

If you’re nodding along to any of this, maybe it’s time to take a fresh look. It might need a full overhaul or maybe just a thoughtful update. Either way, you don’t have to figure it out alone – and if you’d like to talk it through, you know where to find me. ♥
