The Myth of Motivation
When people picture success – in business, in creative work, in life – it’s easy to imagine those big, energized moments. The standing ovation. The product launch. The perfect post or blog that suddenly gets all the clicks.
But the truth is: motivation doesn’t show up every day. It might be helpful if it did, but alas, no. Not happening for most people.
My son played ice hockey growing up, and if you know hockey, you know about the fourth line grinders. They aren’t always the stars. They aren’t always the ones scoring goals. They are the ones who dig in, hang on, and push through.
Not because of flash. But because they’re steady. Reliable. Focused on the fundamentals. Think of grit. x20.
It’s the same with websites, businesses, writing, health – you name it.
Some days feel like first-line energy.
Other days? You just need to grind.
That’s where habits and systems matter more than feeling “motivated.”
If you wait until you feel like showing up, you’ll miss too many opportunities. But if you’ve built in rhythms and routines, you’ll keep moving forward – even on the slow days.
So here’s your coaching reminder today:
Don’t wait for motivation. Build a system. Set a schedule. Make it so showing up is just what you do – whether you’re the one scoring or the one keeping the team steady.
Because the grinders keep things moving.
