Website Wins
There is currently a lot of, I’ll say, conversation, surrounding websites. All web developers and designers agree on the importance of websites. That is just about where the agreement ends. Who needs a website? How many pages should it have? What should be included? Ecommerce directly within the website or is that more easily managed off-site? Should my work be displayed, or will it be stolen? And on and on.
We are truly in the midst of a digital revolution, and this means that the answers to questions will change. Sometimes even overnight. All we can do is make the best decision in the moment with the information we have and change or update as necessary and as best we can.
At this point, I would argue that everyone could use a website for something. It might not yet be cost-effective to simply have a personal website for family and friends, but I believe that for business purposes, eventually everyone will be somehow tied into a website. I think of student-athletes – look how recruiters can more easily view clips of games and statistics if the student has their own professional website to refer them to! How about an actor being able to gather all resume information, references, video clips of performances, quotes from reviews, etc. all in one place for anyone who might be hiring? Most people are now used to navigating large business websites for their own needs, but I also see a future that has much smaller websites for the entrepreneur. Figuring out how to gather your ideas and market your side hustle to gain more clients and profit! This is all happening now, and websites, like the internet, are not going away.
So how do we determine if a website to be successful or what is a website win? I say that your website is successful if it serves you and your business and does what you need it to do. It might be a blog where you share your thoughts and ideas. It might include a calendar so clients can book a time to either speak with you or ask you to come to them to perform a service. It could even be a central place for people to post items or state their talents and then have a way to barter for goods or services. “We are limited only by our imagination and our will to act.” – Ron Garan
